Our Tyre Garden

Inquiry questions

  • What do plants need to grow?
  • How can we take care of living things around us?
  • What else can old things, like tyres, become?

What they did

The children turned old tyres into a garden. They filled them with soil and dug in with their own small spades, learning that caring for the world can start with one small patch of earth.

Inquiry questions

  • Where do crayons go when they are too small to use?
  • How does heat change a material like wax?
  • How can we give old things a new life instead of throwing them away?

What they did

Students collected broken crayons, peeled off the wrappers and sorted the pieces by colour. In their journals, they drew how heat could melt the old pieces into new crayons.
